Pashmina shawls are known for their softness and
warmth.
The most popular pashmina fabric available today is a 70% pashmina/30% silk blend,
but 50/50 is also common. The 70/30 is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen
and drapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.
The name pashmina comes from Pashmineh. It is made from Persian wool, and
a special breed of goat in the Himalayans... in Asia. But because of
the high world demand and lack of supply, many of the goats are now raised in the Gobi Desert
in Mongolia.
